Esurance is hiring a Sr. Copywriter to join our Marketing team in the San Francisco, CA office.  As the Sr. Copywriter you will lead designated projects and tasks, ensuring both quality and consistency as well as timely completion. You will act as guardian of the Esurance voice and helps educate associates on editorial standards, whiling demonstrating the ability to maintain focus on the small but important details while simultaneously keeping a well-trained eye on the big picture.  You will also serve as editorial project lead on designated projects while collaborating with designers and project managers to ensure creative concepts and executions meet brand standards and established business objectives.


In addition, crafts deeply researched, original, and engaging content as needed for Esurance U.S. and Canada websites, and content marketing initiatives including articles relating to the company's auto, home, motorcycle, renters and partner products.  All while keeping current on trends and best practices and mentoring other writers on the team.


  • Writes and oversees stellar copy across a broad range of mediums, including sponsorship, social media, digital, remarketing, email, blog, direct mail, print, etc. Is directly responsible for some projects and assignments, overseeing the process from beginning to end little or no oversight.
  • Leads creative brainstorming sessions and helps develop campaigns that are engaging, on-brand, and compelling.
  • Acts as project co-lead to create a variety of online and offline collateral for multiple internal teams. Responsible for completion of assigned projects, which includes developing compelling creative in support of Esurance brand; assessing project scope and conceptualization early in creative process, and coordinating creative team resources as needed to complete projects.
  • Leads copy efforts for always-on social media, brainstorming ideas, providing feedback, and helping to create a steady stream of social content that is highly engaging. Stays abreast of social best practices.
  • Leads copy efforts and collaborates cross-functionally to support digital media strategies, including the creation of banners and other digital units, ensuring creative is highly-compelling and optimized to engage target audiences; balances CTAs and goals with brand consistency.
  • Helps train and mentor new copywriters and serves as a resource for the editorial team, staying informed of current promotions and launches and assisting in the coordination of necessary content and communications.
  • Helps to perform Copywriting Manager?s role in her absence: Assigns projects and liaises with production team and requestors to clarify requests, troubleshoot, and keep projects moving forward through the appropriate channels. Edits a wide range of material across all media with responsibility for final editorial approval.
  • Conducts research and distills information about insurance products and technology into consumer-friendly, search optimized content that educates consumers and improves SEO performance; stays abreast of SEO best practices.
  • Serves as the content lead as needed on designated projects and insurance product lines including bylines, website, and blog content.


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to translate anything into compelling, engaging, and effective copy
  • Experience with providing creative feedback that?s constructive and actionable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital best practices web writing principles
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, Google Analytics, and SEO principles preferred
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and project management skills, able to work well under deadlines and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently
  • Experience wearing many hats and juggling many projects and deliverables simultaneously
  • Agency experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with both internal and external customers 


Experience / Education

  • Bachelor?s degree in English, Creative Writing, a related field and/or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years professional copywriting and editing experience with a background in conceptualizing projects and assessing creative resource
