    Responsibilities

    The Sr. BI Manager is responsible for the management of activities of the business intelligence team. Manage the development and enhancement of business intelligence and enterprise reporting systems. Plan, prioritize and manage the business intelligence needs across all business areas including Marketing, Product Management, Finance, Claims, Insurance Operations and the Response Center within the business intelligence group.

     

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Oversees the ongoing development and operations of an operational data store and enterprise data warehouse.
    • Responsible for the overall architecture of the enterprise data warehouse.
    • Prioritizes and effectively manages multiple reporting projects based on specific criteria and business requirements.
    • Leads a team of business intelligence managers with analysts and business intelligence engineers and plays an active role in collaborating with end users to identify needs and opportunities for improved data management and delivery.
    • Gathers business requirements, promotes ROI and cost benefit analysis, specifying functional specifications and managing project plan, costs, risks and expectations.
    • Administers projects to consistently meet cost, resource, time and goal expectations.
    • Collaborates with IT departments, data owners and subject matter experts from the businesses to ensure overall alignment of initiatives with business strategies and priorities.
    • Assists in establishing the strategy and roadmap for the scalability and performance of the Enterprise Data Warehouse to keep up with company growth.
    • Participates in the establishment of department goals and implements procedures and performance standards to achieve these goals; manages, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the activities of assigned team.
    • Provides technical direction to staff and analysts in other business groups on business intelligence architecture, environment and tool sets.
    • Responsible for the employment, promotion, associate performance evaluation, training, motivation, counseling, and discipline of assigned associates.
    • Provides initiative to stay one step ahead of the organization in leading positive change and optimization, driven by insights from the data.
    • Establishes a data quality methodology documenting a repeatable set of processes for determining, investigating and resolving data quality issues, establishes an on-going process for maintaining quality data, and defines data quality audit procedures.
    • Improves and streamlines processes regarding data flow and data quality to improve data accuracy, viability and value.
    • Monitors industry trends and implement best practices to improve in-house capabilities
    • Excellent leadership, project management and coaching skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills.
    • Extensive knowledge of DW architecture and ETL processes.
    • Extensive knowledge of MS Transact-SQL language, OLAP and dimensional modeling techniques.
    • Detail-oriented, able to work effectively under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently.
    • Able to work independently and within a collaborative team-oriented environment using sound judgment in decision-making.
    • Able to interface with all functions at all levels within the organization; able to coordinate cross-functional teams.
    • Able to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects based on business needs and requirements.

    Experience / Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, a related field or equivalent education required.
    • 10 or more years of experience in data management required; experience should include:
      • 7 or more years of experience in data warehousing and enterprise reporting including experience with very large databases.
      • 7 or more years of experience in MS Transact-SQL language including at least 2 years in SQL 2008.
      • 5 or more years of experience with direct supervision of employees.
      • 2 or more years of experience in managing data quality including data cleansing, maintenance and governance.
      • 3 or more years of experience using any BI tool set. Tableau is preferred.
    • Prior Insurance Industry experience preferred.Representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
